Mali /Return of migrants: A new wave of 34 Malians welcomed

In a press release dated April 17, 2024, the Ministry of Malians Established Abroad and African Integration announced the arrival of 34 Malian nationals from Morocco and Tunisia with the support of its partner International Organization for Migration ( IOM).

Indeed, there are 34 Malian nationals returning to Mali made up of 10 migrants, including 1 woman, coming from Morocco on flight AT523; and 24 migrants, including 1 woman, from the same flight AT523 from Tunisia.

Furthermore, according to the press release from the Council of Ministers, an opinion from the International Organization for Migration reveals that Mali is the first country in terms of assistance and repatriation of its nationals in distress throughout the world.

The proof is that from January 1 to April 11, 2024, the Government of Mali, in collaboration with its partners, assisted and repatriated 3,209 returning Malians. Everything which constitutes a strong commitment from the government despite difficulties during certain repatriation operations.

Note that this observation by Mali in favor of its nationals in distress in host and transit countries is none other than the quality of the diplomacy deployed in this area.
