The ranking of the most prosperous nations in West Africa and the world for the year 2024 is now available, revealed by Global Finance. This classification is based on gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in purchasing power parity (PPP).

Cape Verde emerges as the most opulent country in the region in 2024, with a GDP per capita of $9,909, placing it 13th in Africa and 127th globally. Mauritania and Ivory Coast follow.

According to Global Finance, which used data from the IMF’s “World Economic Outlook, October 2023” report, Côte d’Ivoire ranks 138th in the world in terms of national wealth.

On the African continent, Ivory Coast is ahead of Nigeria and Ghana, ranking 17th with a GDP-PPP per capita of $6,960. Ghana follows closely with $6,905, while Nigeria ranks 20th, after Kenya, with $6,148 billion. Further down the ranking, Cameroon occupies 22nd place with $4,661.

Compared to 2023, the African leader in cocoa production maintains its position, but its GDP per capita has decreased, from $7,011 to $6,960.

Benin rose to 7th place thanks to the initiatives of Patrice Talon and his government, thus marking a favorable presence on the international scene.
